Galaxy-Care Laparoscopy Institute, Pune, India, has made major strides in the field of providing world class affordable cancer care to the patients of the region. Dedicated exclusively to the cause of cancer, the institute has become a major referral center for cancer cases from India and abroad. Since inception in 2005, the institute has continually strives to provide an evidence-based high quality and focused approach to cancer care. This institute has been instrumental in bringing the benefits of Minimally Invasive Surgery to cancer patients in India. Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar, our Medical Director is Internationally recognized for his pioneering work in laparoscopic onco-surgery (cancer surgery) and advanced laparoscopic surgery. Dr Shailesh Puntambekar is the first Indian to perform Robotic Surgery for esophageal cancer. He has also demonstrated live robotic surgeries in conferences in Europe. The team of surgeons at Galaxy has performed live surgeries and live video-conferencing surgeries in various countries all over the world, like Germany, Greece, Romania, Singapore, Italy, USA, Israel, Austria, Pakistan and Turkey.
Most of all, he has certainly put our city- Pune, on the global map for the “Pune Technique” developed by him, for treatment of cancers of the cervix. He has the largest International published series of Laparoscopic Radical Hysterectomy to his credit, which is today being performed in various centres all over the world including Germany, Israel and USA. Surgeons and gynecologists from all over the world have visited Galaxy to learn the “Pune Technique”.

Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar has not only done his city proud but also has made India proud on innumerable occasions. For his pioneering work in Laparoscopic Cancer Surgery, on an international level, he has been awarded the “Distinguished Surgeon’s Award”, at the “International Surgical Olympics” at Beijing China in the year 2009.

Our institute was initially started by a group of laparoscopic surgeons and gynecologists from Pune as the “Galaxy Laparoscopy Institute” and over a period of 4 years has grown into an institute of international repute. It is now associated with the Care Group of Hospitals, with hospitals spread all over India, and is today known as “Galaxy-Care Laparoscopy Institute.”
We have been the pioneers of Laparoscopic Cancer Surgeries in India and thousands of cancer patients from all over India have been benefited after we single-handedly introduced and developed these advanced laparoscopic techniques. Not only this, but Galaxy is a leader on the new frontiers of medical science. This includes NOTES (Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery) and SILS (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgeries). The SILS performed at Galaxy include:- Single Incision Appendicectomy, Single Incision Hysterectomy, Single Incision Cholecystectomy and Single Incision Laparoscopic Radical Hysterectomy- the first ever to be performed in the world!! The Da Vinci robot is one of the world’s most advanced pieces of surgical equipment. Robotic Surgery is now being performed by leading hospitals in USA, Europe, Japan and Korea. In keeping up with the latest developments taking place all over the world, Galaxy is the first institute in India to be performing Robotic Surgeries in all branches of surgical specialities.
